Design Engineer/CAD Designer II

Designs and drafts accurate scale layouts of parts, assemblies or devices. Produces Engineering blueprints with appropriate machine tolerances. Writes Engineering Change Requests (ECRs). Develops prototypes, specifications and drawings for new products, components and medical device concepts. Complies with the Quality System. Develops verification/validation prototypes for bench testing activities. Communicates directly with other departments to create or revise engineering/manufacturing documentation. Completes activities with independent actions and little direct supervision. Research and provide concepts, ideas and solutions to challenging medical device needs. Delivers complete device components and assemblies of functional medical devices for engineering review by independent means and under verbal instructions. Mentors drafters and less experienced designers. Co-ordinates and manages other duties as assigned. Requires Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. At least two (2) years practical work experience in design and drafting of relevant product development from concept through commercialization; two (2) years in a medical device industry; two (2) years in design and development of orthopedic surgical instrument trays, using various design related techniques/tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), 2D and 3D computer aided design (CAD) techniques, finite element packages, and Solid Works. Requires experience using various measurement equipment (ie: calipers, micrometers, gauges, optical comparators); training completed in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) by ASME Certified Trainer; knowledge of material properties, coatings, finishes and secondary processes.
